Tamaqua:
Nestled in between the mountains and with the Little Schuylkill River flowing through it Tamaqua is within a short drive of Tuscarora State Park and Locust Lake State Park.  Once a mining town with ties to the Molly Maguires, Tamaqua has undergone a rebirth of sorts in the past few years.
Tamaqua is a perfect example of what can happen to a town when the citizens get involved.  The past few years have seen this Jewel of the anthracite region receive a beautiful shine.  The restoration of the 1874 Train Station, a downtown park, a satellite campus off LCCC in the new Jon and Dorothy Morgan Foundation building, a new middle school, more parking, several restoration projects, a new streetscape plan for the near future, nature trails, and more is what  has Tamaqua sparkling once again. Tamaqua is located within a reasonable drive from Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey approximately 35 miles north of Allentown and 50 mile south of the Wilkes Barre/Scranton area.  Tamaqua is easily accessible from the PA Turnpike, Interstate 81 and 80, Routes 309, 209, 443, 61, 895, 902and 54.
